Glacier Park Montana and Back | By: V-StarCruiser | Janurary 21, 2008

Few things can match the excitement and anticipation of getting on your bike and setting off on a long ride, venturing into the unknown. When I thought about heading out on another extended ride, the first question was obviously “where to go”?  I thought about Colorado, then I thought, well heck, Utah is just right there and then, why not Yellowstone too?  Needless to say following this thought process I ended up going all the way to Glacier National Park in Montana – and back!

The idea was to stay off all the main highways and only ride the less traveled two lane back roads.  It was late in the season (Late September) so I anticipated some questionable weather patterns. I wasn’t going to let a little thing like Mother Nature stop me, and there were times that she behaved poorly… Everything from overcast Kansas skies, almost white-out snow conditions atop Independence Pass, Colorado, ugly nasty thunder storms in Northwest Colorado where the closest shelter was 50 miles away and let’s not forget tucking myself in behind a snow plow in Montana during an unexpected freak snow storm that fortunately only lasted about 75 miles. Even with all these things there were many beautiful days of ideal riding.
